Characterization of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Different Ferroalloys used in the Steelmaking Processes

Ferroalloys are one of the most important raw materials widely used in steelmaking processes. Depending on cleanliness ferroalloys, they can be an inevitable source impurities and nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) products. Herein, five different industrial ferroalloys (FeTi, FeMo, FeW, MnN, FeCrN) investigated. This is done using 2D investigations polished cross sections ferroalloy samples 3D NMIs film filters metal surfaces after electrolytic extraction (EE) scanning electron microscopy combination with energy‐dispersive spectroscopy (SEM‐EDS). Moreover, characteristics main types presented EE compared their possible transformations Al‐killed steel evaluated. The results show that more likely oxidization products reductant some unreduced ore during production process. found to very useful detection evaluation larger‐sized inclusions. Overall, this study helps better understand effect cleanliness.
